lingering angst

I’m not sure what to write about today.

I had Zoom training this morning, toured the grade school I’ll be working at, helped set up for open house, and babysat. I almost fell asleep on the bus listening to sad EDM.

Is that romantic to the capitalists? Slash...does that count as going to Bonnaroo?

Drake wanted to subscribe to a magazine but there’s an $80 annual fee. This is why we need to sponsor the pod!

Art is expensive and life is expensive and I’m not saying we shouldn’t pay artists but that reading that magazine means missing out on a lot of iced coffees and coffee is expensive because I always tip on that iPad even though I should bring cash around because there’s homeless people and mutual aid and even tips get taxed if they’re made with a card.

I’m starting to sound like Lorde when she calls herself a prettier Jesus that was born in the year of Oxycontin.

I too am going to fall back on the TikTok interpretation that this is all very self-aware and not earnest at all and actually a critique.

My joke of the week is that anything that’s bad or embarrassing or cheugy is actually holding a mirror up to the form–think of photo dumps, working out, or frappuccinos.

This angst and anger started because I want free public transit. I want libraries and universal healthcare and benches every fucking block. And not the half benches that Milwaukee has in boatloads. Of course I want people to have safe and homey housing, but I also want people to be able to sleep on a bench without waking up to a cop calling their rest illegal.

Does anyone have any book/podcast/article recommendations that talk about community care?

I have been loving the podcasts Trillbilly Workers Party and Millennials are Killing Capitalism. I’m gonna share the specific episode of MAKC that I j’adored in my newsletter tomorrow.

For now, I’m gonna finish up my 10pm pasta dinner and maybe even gulp down an orange soda in the shower. I’m the relatable Gwyneth Paltrow!

I would highly recommend a podcast called pick me up, I’m scared! They break down all kinds of capitalist structures and discuss how they could be changed/abolished
