So.

I have officially reached the side of TikTok that is obsessed with animating friend groups and asking who the "main character" is.

I do miss my “lonely twenty-something figuring out herself” book recommendation TikToks, but Willow’s “Meet Me At Our Spot” song is an incredible anthem for the change in seasons. I played the song five times during my bus ride home last night.

More than one person has shared with me that they feel there is an electric current in the air. There’s a breeze that licks the sweat off sunburnt skin now. August was so sticky not even a window air conditioning unit could promise relief (at least, I'm telling myself this because I didn't buy one when I should have).

I’ve spent the past week working in a grade school. The smell of textbooks and the sight of kids raising their hands is a return to routine that I crave. What do teachers wear that isn’t a recipe for sweat stains? I’m gonna keep wearing t-shirts and athletic shorts until my supervisor pulls me aside for a conversation about professionalism in the workplace.

Looking back at the month that Taylor Swift made trendy it’s important to note that I drank more water, slept later, and had so much free time all I could do was dread the future and get groceries. I trained for my new job as a trivia host (my weekly trivia show starts Wednesday, September 15th at NO Studios downtown so bring your friends and fiends), met some cool peeps, and put off editing the podcast as much as I could. I’m hoping to bring the “drinking water” habit into this month.

Today is the New Moon (I found that out from the Chani app).

What should my intentions for this month be? I’ve already missed possibly six days of optimized living under these new goals. Jia Tolentino is shaking her head and I’m trying to update my Gcal.

I’m excited to wear more sweatshirts. I want to treasure softness again. I have a fluffy comforter that I shoved in storage in our basement because I woke up from a sweat dream a month ago.

Are warm drinks relevant again? I’ve made a whole personality out of iced coffee and I wonder if I’ll lose street cred for finding solace in a hot chocolate this year. Nothing’s wrong with something warm to wrap my hands around...yes that’s an innuendo. Those are gonna continue being big for me this fall.

Michaela Linehan has kept the squad hip to when Trader Joe’s will release pumpkin products again. She has an “in” almost everywhere. My mouth is drooling at the thought of pumpkin cinnamon rolls and vegetarian chili with Fritos.

Back to the subject of intentions for this month…

I’ve returned to the ole reliable website of https://www.pacemaker.press/ and set a goal of writing three pages every day. I don’t think I have the discipline or interest to write these as “morning pages” so I am going to give myself leeway and allow for them to be written at any time of the day. They’ll be handwritten and extremely uninteresting.

I have also added a goal of writing a stand-up set every Saturday. I want to finally do an open mic every week now that I’m starting to settle in. I’m sad because the mic that is a mile walk away from my house is on Mondays and I work Monday nights. How am I going to become best friends with Jack Black lookalike and English literature Ph.D. candidate if I don’t come to the same stand-up open mic as them every week???

I’ll keep y’all posted on how these ambitions go. Hopefully, I won’t bail on them, but also if I decide that I need sleep or downtime instead...c’est la vie!

Happy fall!
